Beyond the Flames, Beyond Grateful
by Top of the Hill Staff on August 26, 2024"Can We Thank Everyone?"
That was Damu's immediate response when asked what he wanted to share in today's update. This simple yet profound statement perfectly captures the true character of Top of the Hill Owners—and husband and wife team—Damu and Jackie Maples.
So, before we dive into some important announcements, we want to start by passing on their thanks:
We want to express our deepest gratitude for:
1. Our Family, Friends, and Community: Your acts of kindness and words of encouragement are carrying us through this challenging time. We can’t thank you enough for the love and support you’ve shown.
2. Linda and Scott Baker, Our Landlords: Thank you for the productive meeting today, and for helping us navigate the decisions we need to make for the future.
3. Josh Graves: We are so appreciative of your assistance and unwavering support.
4. Our Brave First Responders: We owe so much to those who fought the flames and are working tirelessly to complete the final investigations. Special thanks to:

Investigation Update:
Regarding the ongoing investigations, we will wait until all reports, including those from insurance adjusters, are completed before sharing any findings.
Important Announcements:
- Plant Giveaway: Since we no longer have a way to water our plants, we’ll be on-site tomorrow, Tuesday, August 26th, from 11 am to 2 pm to give them away. Please stop by and take one home!
- Volunteer Requests: Many of you have generously offered to help with the cleanup. We would love your assistance once we get the go-ahead. Please stay tuned for more details soon.
- Fundraising Event September 4th: We are incredibly touched that C. Davis Texas BBQ has offered to organize a fundraiser on our behalf! Here are the details from one of their social posts:
We, @theredtearoom and @lacremapatisserie_ will be hosting @cdtxbbq to do a community fundraiser in the parking lot of Fairwood Square, 17620 140th Ave SE, Renton 98058 (by Big Lots and King County Sheriff’s office) on Wednesday, Sept 4th from 4 pm to 7 pm. Please save the date, come out, and support this fundraiser. We will have amazing BBQ, food, sweets, gelato, and farm-fresh bouquets (updates available later). Proceeds from this fundraiser by all the participating businesses will be donated to the owners to help them rebuild during these challenging times. We also want to thank our landlord for graciously allowing us to host this event."
We’ll continue to post updates as more information becomes available. Thank you for standing by us—your support means everything.
