Navigating the Aftermath: Fire Update #4
by Top of the Hill Staff on September 12, 2024Hi everyone,
We have spent time this week catching up on yard work, and chores around the house. As Damu sorted through all of our Top of the Hill store swag in the closet, it was bittersweet. At first, it brought tears to our eyes. But then, we decided it would be a perfect opportunity to re-brand once we re-open for business, as a symbol of starting fresh.
Although we don't know when that will be or what that will look like yet, the idea of starting fresh gives us something to look forward to.
Employees:
We've received many thoughtful inquiries about our employees. Please know that we're staying closely connected with each one, ensuring they are supported during this difficult time. If your business needs dedicated and hardworking staff, Jackie is available to provide referrals and recommendations for any of our displaced employees. Please feel free to reach out to her directly at (253) 876-4646.Other updates:
- The insurance companies have completed their investigations and have also confirmed it was arson. We are in a holding pattern while they process their findings.
- Unfortunately, the building is unsafe due to the collapsed roof, mold, pests, food spoilage, and lingering chemicals. We want to thank all those who volunteered to help with the cleanup, but at this point, it's looking more like a demolition project with heavy equipment and hazmat suits.
- As of the writing of this blog, the police investigation is still ongoing.

Our Heartfelt Thanks
We so enjoy reading the colorful (and humorous) cards from the community. They really brighten our day! Your social media and blog comments seem to come at just the right time too. We are so grateful for all the community support we've received!Fairwood Fundraiser
We still can't believe it: There were over 1,000 people who attended last week's Fairwood Fundraiser, and drumroll on the update: over $16,000 in funds were raised! HUGE THANKS to everyone who showed up, and to the following small businesses who donated their proceeds, time and auction items:
- C.Davis Texas BBQ
- Crown Yoga
- Four Corners Merchants
- Imagine Hot Yoga & Wellness
- La Crema Patisserie
- Solavi Wellness
- The Red Tea Room
Everyone worked so hard on such a hot (but beautiful) day. It was amazing to see so many of our customers, employees, and friends too.
As Steve Wong from The Red Tea Room (and many others) have said: "It's just what we do in Renton"!
You have proven that as you stand together with us, we are #RentonStrong. We know some other communities and businesses have also rallied for our support: We appreciate you too! Please mention them in the comments below.
Next Week:
With everything on hold, we’ve decided to take a little breather next week, spending some time at a nearby RV resort with our dog.We hope to know more when we get back. Until then, here are links to some of the media coverage over the last week:
